Other Dances

Dancing is the poetry of the foot.

John Dryden

An avid dancer, Divya has always been open to learning other techniques. From attending Bharatanatyam sessions and talks with the greats of dance such as Rama Vaidyanathan, Prof. NS Jayalakshmi, Mandakini Trivedi, Priyadarsini Govind and the Dhananjayans to participating in hip hop and Butoh workshops, she has always sought to expand her horizons and to learn from other genres.

Divya had the honour of opening the school’s UN Night 2015 performances with a solo classical dance piece choreographed by her and closing it with the Bhangra performance, co-choreographed by her.

Divya has also been the only Indian classical dancer to successfully audition for the Latin dances segment in UWCSEA’s professional standard Dance Show in March 2015. She performed in all three of the Latin dances- urban salsa, mambo and flamenco. Watch her performances here

Divya performed in the school musical A Westside Story, in dancing, singing and acting roles, thereby showcasing her talents. Watch a segment here

Divya performed in both the theatre and dance segments of Dhaara- the Flow of Divinity, a professional ticketed theatre-dance production that was performed in Singapore and in India, as part of Samarpana- the Asian Festival of Classical Dance in 2014.
